Chateau de la Motte

Chateau de la Motte, built in the 16th and 18th centuries, elegant, comfortable, surrounded by a moat and in beautiful grounds is simply a lovely place to be.

Outside the moat, the parkland grounds, 17 acres in all, are a fine place for reflection, relaxing and having all sorts of fun. Near the house are gardens, a parterre, a hard tennis court and a heated pool enclosed by walls and the pool house and a trampoline. Beyond is woodland and parkland, with streams and a lake fed from the river Hozain which flows along the boundary. Wildlife abounds in this peaceful corner of rural France.

The domaine is on the edge of the village of Rumilly les Vaudes and a region of rolling hills, vast forests and vineyards (Champagne, Chablis, Irancy). The house is a five minute stroll from the village's bar tabac and beautiful church, a five minute drive from good restaurants, shops, hairdressers etc.

Golf, riding and water skiing are all within fifteen minutes drive. The historic city of Troyes, awarded three stars by the Guide Michelin, is twenty kilometers away. Troyes abounds in restaurants, fine architecture and narrow mediaeval streets.

Chateau de la Motte is a family home. It is a happy venue for extended or multiple family holidays, reunions or big anniversaries. The house suits all ages: children revel in the grounds and outdoor facilities, adults join in the fun or relax in the sophistication and comfort of the house.

What our customers say

"On behalf of the Streicker Family, I wanted to thank you for generously sharing your Chateau de la Motte. As my family presently seems to have scattered across the Atlantic, having such a welcoming focal point to gather was ideal. We have had similar gatherings in Hawaii, Panama and Belize but nowhere did we stay with such a feeling of welcome and concern for our wellbeing. Leatitia greeted us with warmth and, of course, provided two wonderful meals. Beverly and I adapted quickly to daily bicycle rides and walks in the woods and forest. We did get to see the Cathedral in Troyes and to shop in the amazing food market a few blocks away. We hope to revisit some time soon."

"I just wanted to take a moment to say what a fabulous time we had at Chateau de la Motte. Laetitia was AMAZING! Great food and so welcoming. Everything was perfect for our needs. The weather wasn't great but the chateau was so warm and cosy it didn't matter. We'll definitely be back!!"

"Just a note to say how much we have enjoyed staying in your beautiful château. We have had a range of 20-year-olds and 50 – 60-year-olds and all have had a fantastic time. Everything has been done with such style and the wishes of all have been thoroughly anticipated. With many thanks from us all."

"I just wanted to write and let you know that we have a most wonderful stay at Chateau de la Motte. You have a beautiful place and Laetitia is just wonderful. I also wanted to thank you again for helping us three years ago. When our daughter was ill you were very kind and refunded our payment immediately. Other companies were terrible. As a result I always wanted to find a time to come back to Chateau de la Motte, and I am so glad I did."

"We have had the most wonderful week at your Chateau. You have the most beautiful French home and everyone in our group had an unforgettable holiday. The weather did indeed heat up during the week but the house itself is wonderfully cool. When we were not at various wine and champagne tastings, we chilled in the pool. The many other games and activities in the gardens were kept for the evenings. There was never a dull moment and consequently our week has flown by at unbelievable speed."

"It was the happiest of times and, as you say, a lovely place just to be with the family. Great memories of different occasions, dining under the trees, conversation, fishing. Henrietta sailed round the moat with the children aboard after much rowing. The sun shone and there was much activity in the pool and on the tennis court. Laetitia wanted to do lots of cooking for us – many enjoyable menu discussions with her."
