Chateau de la Motte

Chateau de la Motte from the air

Château de la Motte, built in the 16th and 18th centuries, together with its courtyard, outbuildings and pigeonier is surrounded by a moat. Outside the moat, the grounds, 17 acres in all, are lovely. Near the house is a parterre, a hard tennis court and a heated pool, enclosed by walls and the pool house. Alongside the pool area are a rose garden, a barbecue and shaded dining area. Beyond is woodland and parkland, with streams and a lake fed from the river Hozain which flows along the boundary. Wildlife abounds. It is a glorious corner of rural France.

The domaine is on the edge of the village of Rumilly les Vaudes and a region of rolling hills, vast forests and vineyards (Champagne, Chablis, Irancy). The house is a five minute stroll from the village's bar tabac and beautiful church, a five minute drive from good restaurants (one with a Michelin star) shops, hairdressers etc.

Golf, riding and water skiing are all within fifteen minutes drive. The historic city of Troyes, awarded three stars by the Guide Michelin, is twenty kilometers away. Troyes abounds in restaurants, fine architecture and narrow mediaeval streets.

Chateau de la Motte is a holiday home, short on four posters, heavy drapes and cold floors: long on comfort and facilities. An easy four-hour drive from Calais, yet in the heart of France.
